Members Meeting with Siegward Elsas – Oct 16

Mechanical ButterflyHow can Anthroposophy become a “Spiritual Science” and what is its relationship to Natural Science?

We will consider these questions with Siegward Elsas in our next members meeting on Saturday, October 16 at 6 pm at Bothmer Hall.

Siegward Elsas, M.D. studied medicine at the anthroposophically-inspired University Witten/Herdecke in Germany and began developing an anthroposophical and Goethean approach to neuroscience, and physiology in general, during his studies there 25 years ago.  He has been an Assistant Professor of Neurology at Oregon Health and Science University where he pursued a phenomenological approach to neuroscience with his research team, correlating internal observations of consciousness with electro-neurophysiology.   Using this approach, Siegward has developed and researched the effectiveness of meditation and emotional balance as a new treatment of epilepsy, which is a condition of temporarily altered consciousness.  In the near future, he will contribute this therapy and research to his new work at the Ita Wegman Klinik in Arlesheim / Switzerland from where anthroposophic medicine originated.
